Last year, I called Sweetlife a “bullshit salad festival with a 2012 lineup.” For Sweetlife 2015, not much of that description needs changing. It still felt like a bullshit, overpriced salad festival. However, there were some changes.
This was the first year that the festival expanded to two days, and it was also the first time the event didn’t dissolve into a large mudslide. Unfortunately, artists found themselves playing to a much smaller audience.
Unlike the packed crowds of past installments, neither day sold out this year, leaving the pavilion largely empty. Ticket prices rose, which may have accounted for the unusually meager turnout.
Still, there were some surprises in store. Kendrick Lamar kicked the Sweetgreen CEO off the stage, Tove Lo flashed her crowd, and Calvin Harris’ girlfriend, Taylor Swift, watched from the side stage as he closed out the festival.
